Overview
TMNT Pizza Peril is Command Line's internally developed roguelike experience built inside Fortnite using UEFN. While the project served as a research and development lab for advanced roguelike game mechanics, it quickly proved itself to be far more, earning the prestigious TMNT Picks award and delivering some of the strongest player retention numbers Command Line has ever seen.
The experience puts players in the world of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, fighting through progressively challenging encounters with the roguelike structure that makes every run feel fresh and uniquely rewarding. The depth of the gameplay loop has kept players coming back session after session, with average playtimes that far exceed what most Fortnite Creative maps achieve.

Background
Roguelike mechanics represent one of the most sophisticated gameplay challenges in game design. Building systems that feel random and surprising while remaining deeply fair and satisfying is extraordinarily difficult. Command Line used TMNT Pizza Peril as an opportunity to develop, test, and refine these systems in a live, real-world environment.
By grounding the R&D in an established IP with a passionate fanbase, the team was able to gather real player data on what worked, what didn't, and what created the kind of compulsive replayability that defines the best roguelike games.

Gameplay & Design
- Roguelike Structure: Each run through TMNT Pizza Peril is procedurally varied. Players face different enemy configurations, item drops, and challenges each time they play. The roguelike loop rewards mastery and encourages experimentation, creating a game that feels new even after dozens of hours.
- TMNT Universe Integration: The experience is built faithfully around the TMNT world: sewer environments, pizza-themed power-ups, iconic villains, and the four turtles' distinct personalities are all woven into the gameplay and environmental design.
- Progressive Difficulty: The challenge scales as players advance, so both newcomers and veterans find meaningful engagement. The balance between accessible early gameplay and demanding late-game content has been a key driver of the exceptional retention numbers.
- Boon & Power-Up Systems: Command Line developed custom boon and power-up card systems that give players meaningful choices on each run, building unique character builds, adapting strategies, and creating those "just one more run" moments that define great roguelikes.

Recognition & Results

- TMNT Picks Award: TMNT Pizza Peril was recognized with the official TMNT Picks award, a recognition that highlights standout experiences within the TMNT Fortnite ecosystem. This distinction validates the quality and authenticity of Command Line's design work.
- Exceptional Player Retention: The average player spends 2 hours in a single session, a remarkable number for any Fortnite Creative experience. More notably, a significant segment of the player base has accumulated over 200 hours of total playtime, demonstrating the kind of deep engagement typically reserved for premium PC and console titles.
- Proven Roguelike Systems: The mechanics developed and refined in TMNT Pizza Peril now form part of Command Line's core competency, proven systems ready to be deployed in future client projects.
