Epic Games published its 2024 year-in-review for the Fortnite creator ecosystem. The short version: $352 million in engagement-based payouts, up 11% from 2023.
The numbers
- 70,000 active creators (nearly tripled from 2023)
- 198,000 islands published (137,000 built in UEFN)
- 5.23 billion hours played on creator-made islands
- 36.5% of total Fortnite playtime is now on third-party content
- 7 creators earned over $10 million each
The 36.5% figure is the one worth sitting with. More than a third of all Fortnite playtime happens outside of Epic's own modes. That was not true two years ago.
What we take from it
Command Line has been building in this space since 2022. These numbers track with what we've seen on the ground: branded Fortnite experiences are growing at roughly 32% quarter-over-quarter, and the UEFN toolset is catching up to what professional studios actually need.
